When I was reading Chapter 2, I easily made an connection with the dad. On my grandpa's 70th birthday, all his grandchildren (including me of course) received money even though it was HIS birthday. At that time, (this is about 7 years ago) I just accepted the money happily and never questioned why. But, now as I think of it, shouldn't my grandpa be receiving presents and money? I found it rather interesting that in the novel, they did they same even though my grandpa didn't gave be hundreds and hundreds of dollars.
Have this ever happened to you guys? How do you feel about this?

Actually, yesterday, this happened to my friend. Pretty ironic, actually. We went to a fair and he gave her money to spend there. She felt bad, but politely accepted it. I don't know why grandparents do this, I suppose they've come to realize material things mean nothing; just as long as they have the people they love with them, is all that matters.

I don't why grandparents do that either. When I was little, my grandma would always give me money out of the blue. I think it was one of her ways of showing that she cared for me and wanted to give me something that would be useful in the future. Like Michelle, I happily accepted the money happily. But now, I've grown to politely refuse to take money from them because I don't visit them just to get money. I visit them because I want to spend time with my loved ones. (:
